A glass of homemade Spanish horchata is the peak of refreshment. And in case your mom isn't Spanish, we've included a recipe from Nuts.com for you. But if your mother IS Spanish, then don't tell her we spiked this version…

Ingredients:

• 1 cup tiger nuts*, soaked overnight

• 1 cinnamon stick

• 5-6 cups filtered water + additional water for soaking

• 3 tbsp sugar

*Note: Tiger nuts, also called chufa nuts can often be found at specialty grocery or nut stores.

Steps:

1. Soak tiger nuts and cinnamon overnight in a large bowl with water

2. Drain and discard the water. Then transfer the tiger nuts and cinnamon to a blender or food processor. Add the sugar and new filtered water, and blend until you obtain a smooth mixture.

3. Pour the milk mixture inside a nut milk bag and squeeze all the milk out. Transfer milk to a large glass container and refrigerate until ready to drink.

4. Add a splash of light or dark rum to each glass (we used Bayou Rum )

5. Garnish with ground cinnamon and kick back!
