October 2019 Tasting Notes

As we head into Fall with its vibrant change of colours and cool nights, our tastes look to more warm and earthy spiced flavours. Autumn in BC tides in the new Bordeaux releases and in keeping with that theme we are featuring some of our Bordeaux favorites alongside wines produced by the classic Bordeaux grape varieties.

Cuvée Hortense Bordeaux Blanc

This lovely white Bordeaux originates from the Entre-deux-Mers region and is crafted from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. It spends 6 months before bottling resting in French oak barrels. Resulting in a fresh wine with vibrant acidity combined with flavours of lemon zest, grapefruit and apricot with hints of toasty oak and vanilla spice on the finish.

Chateau Labadie Medoc 2015

Awarded 90 points by Wine Advocate and James Suckling! This Cru Bourgeois from Medoc encompasses a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and is showing amazingly well. Lifted earthy and blackberry aromas entice the palate with sweet tobacco nuances. This medium bodied wine offers supple tannins and ripe black fruits with a polished finish ending in sweet spice.

Chateau Ste. Michelle Merlot

Enjoy this plump and juicy Merlot from the oldest winery in Washington. The fruit is sourced from Columbia Valley and a dash of Syrah is added which contributes a bit of a jammy character. The oak ageing comes through with toasty spices on the finish. Layers of dark fruits with leather and spice make for a complex yet approachable wine.

Murphy Goode Cabernet Sauvignon

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from California is always a crowd pleaser. Look forward to savouring rich flavours of black cherry, cassis, chocolate and vanilla on the palate. The fruit shows ripe and firm yet approachable tannins lend structure. This wine would pair well with grilled burgers or any meaty dish.

Cazadores Reposado Tequila

Cazadores Reposado is produced from 100% blue agave and spends up to a year resting in new American oak barrels giving this Tequila a harmonic balance of vanilla and toasty flavours on the finish. The palate is dry and shows citrus peel, floral, melon and a slight herbal note. Smoothly crafted for sipping or whip up a spiced apple Margarita for Fall

Bailey’s Pumpkin Spice

Kick off October and all things pumpkin with this spiced liqueur from the world-renowned Baileys. Rich, creamy and deliciously sweet, it abounds with flavours of pumpkin, nutmeg, clove and a hint of vanilla. Make that perfect pumpkin latte for cozying up this autumn…or shake over ice with vanilla vodka for a pumpkin martini!
